Curriculum

Students participate in an interactive science curriculum (tightly aligned to the New York City Scope and Sequence) where they conduct hands-on experiments and use technology to build their scientific knowledge.

Our curriculum prepares students to be scientists in the real world by emphasizing project-based inquiry and engineering practices. This ensures that students receive a rigorous education in life science, physical science, earth science, as well as various science and engineering practices. Students have the opportunity to take the Living Environment Regents in 8th grade and receive high school credit.

We also closely follow the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), which emphasize 21st Century skills.

NGSS practices:

1. Asking questions and defining problems
2. Developing and using models
3. Planning and carrying out investigations
4. Analyzing and interpreting data
5. Using mathematics and computational thinking
6. Constructing explanations and designing solutions
7. Engaging in argument from evidence
8. Obtaining, evaluating, and communicating information

Science in our Community

The science department works closely with The New York Hall of Science and other amazing collaborators and partners to bring relevant research endeavors to our school community. The Citizen Science club allows students to participate in real life research projects and present their work at various symposiums across the city.
